Drinking lemon water with coarse salt on an empty stomach can be harmful to the body?

I saw a celebrity online claiming that the key to weight loss is changing one's body composition.
They suggested drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice (from one lemon) mixed with a tablespoon of coarse salt diluted in 600 cc of warm water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
Is this harmful to the teeth or stomach, or could it cause any damage to the body?

Hello! Lemon and salt are both types of food, and for healthy individuals, consuming them in moderation should not affect health.
However, for those with gastrointestinal issues or conditions such as inflammation or ulcers, it may exacerbate the burden on the digestive system.

Wishing you good health!

Drinking lemon juice mixed with salt water on an empty stomach has become a popular trend, often touted for its potential health benefits, including weight loss and detoxification. However, it is essential to consider the implications of this practice, especially for individuals with pre-existing gastrointestinal issues.

Lemon juice is highly acidic, primarily due to its citric acid content. When consumed, it can stimulate gastric acid production, which may aid digestion for some individuals. However, for those with sensitive stomachs or conditions such as gastritis or peptic ulcers, the acidity can exacerbate symptoms, leading to discomfort, heartburn, or even nausea. The addition of salt, particularly coarse salt, can further complicate matters. While salt is a necessary nutrient in moderation, excessive intake can lead to increased blood pressure and may cause water retention, which is not ideal for everyone.

In general, for healthy individuals without gastrointestinal issues, consuming lemon juice and salt water in moderation is unlikely to cause significant harm. However, it is crucial to listen to your body. If you experience discomfort, bloating, or any adverse reactions, it may be wise to discontinue this practice.
For those with a history of gastrointestinal problems, such as gastritis, ulcers, or acid reflux, it is advisable to approach this mixture with caution. The acidity of lemon juice can irritate the stomach lining, especially when consumed on an empty stomach. Additionally, if you have been diagnosed with any gastrointestinal disorders, it is always best to consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet.

Moreover, while some proponents claim that drinking lemon and salt water can help with weight loss, it is essential to understand that sustainable weight loss is achieved through a balanced diet and regular physical activity rather than quick fixes. Relying solely on such mixtures can lead to nutritional imbalances and may not provide the long-term results one desires.

In summary, while drinking lemon juice and salt water on an empty stomach may not be harmful for everyone, it is essential to consider individual health conditions and listen to your body's signals. If you have any concerns or pre-existing health issues, consulting with a healthcare provider or a registered dietitian can provide personalized advice tailored to your needs. They can help you navigate dietary choices that support your health without risking discomfort or adverse effects.
