Circumcision and penile curvature surgery?
Is it normal for the urine stream to split in the middle after undergoing a circumcision and penile curvature correction procedure five months ago? I still feel discomfort and experience sharp pain since the surgery.
I have shown this to a doctor, but they said everything looks normal.

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
Mr.
Chen: Hello, the bifurcation is unrelated to the surgery.
The bifurcation is simply due to mucus obstructing the urethral opening.
After the surgery, the presence of sutures may cause a foreign body sensation.
The recovery time depends on individual constitution and sensitivity.
I hope the above answers are helpful to you.

Post-surgery complications can be a significant concern for patients undergoing procedures such as circumcision and penile curvature correction. In your case, it seems you are experiencing some unusual symptoms five months post-surgery, including bifurcation of the urine stream and persistent discomfort. Let’s break down these issues and provide some insights based on medical knowledge.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that after any surgical procedure, especially those involving delicate areas such as the genital region, some degree of discomfort or pain can be expected during the healing process. However, this discomfort should gradually decrease over time. If you are still experiencing significant pain or discomfort five months after the procedure, it may not be considered normal and warrants further investigation.
The bifurcation of the urine stream you described can occur for several reasons. One possibility is that there may be some residual swelling or scarring from the surgery that is affecting the urethra's shape or function. Another potential cause could be a structural issue related to the surgery itself, such as a narrowing of the urethra (stricture) or an abnormality in the way the urethra was reconstructed. In some cases, the positioning of the urethra can also be altered during surgery, leading to changes in the urine stream.
Persistent pain, especially if it is described as a stabbing or sharp sensation, is another symptom that should not be overlooked. While some discomfort can be expected, ongoing pain could indicate complications such as infection, nerve damage, or issues related to the surgical site, such as excessive scarring or adhesions. It’s crucial to communicate these symptoms clearly to your healthcare provider, as they may require further diagnostic evaluation, such as imaging studies or a referral to a specialist in urology or sexual medicine.
If your doctor has assessed the external appearance and deemed it normal, it may be beneficial to seek a second opinion, particularly from a urologist who specializes in post-surgical complications. They can provide a more thorough evaluation and may suggest additional tests to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.
In terms of management, if there is a diagnosis of urethral stricture or other structural issues, treatment options may include dilation of the urethra, urethrotomy, or other surgical interventions to correct the problem. If the pain is related to nerve sensitivity or scar tissue, physical therapy or medications may be recommended to help alleviate discomfort.
In conclusion, while some discomfort and changes in urinary function can occur after circumcision and penile curvature surgery, persistent symptoms five months post-operation should be thoroughly evaluated. It is essential to advocate for your health and seek further evaluation if your symptoms do not improve or worsen. Open communication with your healthcare provider and possibly seeking a second opinion can help ensure that you receive the appropriate care and management for your condition.
