Caloric absorption after swimming?
I have heard people say, "If you eat immediately after swimming, you will gain weight faster because the body absorbs calories more quickly after swimming." I'm not sure if this is correct.
Currently, due to my obesity (height 174 cm, weight 87 kg), I plan to exercise by swimming in the morning to lose weight.
If the statement above is true, does that mean I shouldn't eat breakfast right after swimming? If so, how long should I wait after swimming before having breakfast? I can't find relevant information, so I would appreciate it if professionals could help me with this.

What types of exercise can lead to weight loss? It varies from person to person.
Based on experience, swimming does not seem to be very effective for weight loss.
We believe that effective weight loss exercises are aerobic activities, such as brisk walking, jogging, stair climbing, jumping rope, aerobic dance, and cycling.
These exercises increase your heart rate and should be performed more than five times a week, with each session lasting about 30 minutes, to be effective.
Generally, swimming tends to increase appetite significantly, which may be a major drawback.
Additionally, after developing a long-term swimming habit, caloric expenditure may decrease.
You may want to assess whether swimming is effective for you.
Furthermore, it is recommended to combine swimming with other forms of exercise.
As for how long after swimming you should wait to eat, that is not the main concern.
You should follow the general guideline for post-exercise eating times.
What matters is controlling your portion sizes; it is meaningless to increase your intake simply because you exercised.
Therefore, you can swim, but if swimming does not help you lose weight, then you may need to switch to a different type of exercise.

The belief that eating immediately after swimming will lead to faster weight gain is a common misconception. While it is true that physical activity, including swimming, can increase your metabolism temporarily, the idea that your body absorbs calories more rapidly right after swimming is not entirely accurate.
When you swim, your body burns calories, and this calorie expenditure can continue for a short period even after you exit the pool. However, the rate at which your body absorbs nutrients from food does not significantly change based on recent physical activity. The body’s metabolic processes are complex and involve various factors, including the type of food consumed, the timing of meals, and individual metabolic rates.
For someone like you, who is 174 cm tall and weighs 87 kg, incorporating swimming into your routine can be an effective way to aid in weight loss, provided it is combined with a balanced diet. Swimming is an excellent cardiovascular exercise that can help burn calories and improve overall fitness. However, it is essential to be mindful of your post-exercise nutrition.
After swimming, your body needs to replenish lost nutrients and energy. Consuming a balanced meal or snack shortly after exercising can help with recovery and muscle repair. Ideally, you should aim to eat within 30 minutes to two hours after your swim. This timeframe is often referred to as the "anabolic window," during which your body is primed to absorb nutrients effectively.
When planning your post-swim meal, focus on a combination of carbohydrates and protein. Carbohydrates will help replenish glycogen stores, while protein is crucial for muscle repair and growth. For example, a smoothie with fruit and yogurt, or a whole-grain toast with eggs, can be a great option.
As for your concern about weight gain, it is crucial to monitor portion sizes and the overall quality of your diet. If you consume more calories than you burn, regardless of when you eat, you may gain weight. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a caloric deficit if your goal is to lose weight.
In summary, you do not need to wait an extended period after swimming to eat breakfast. Instead, focus on consuming a balanced meal that includes both carbohydrates and protein within a reasonable timeframe after your swim. This approach will support your weight loss goals while ensuring your body receives the nutrients it needs for recovery. Additionally, consider incorporating a variety of exercises into your routine, as this can enhance your overall fitness and weight loss efforts.
