How to grow taller?

I am currently in the second year of junior high and will soon be promoted to the third year.
My height is only 160 cm, and I want to grow to 180 cm.
I haven't started puberty yet, but my Adam's apple has been prominent for about four months.
I usually go to bed around 9:30 PM, and the latest is 10:30 PM.
I'm unsure if I can still grow taller, and I would like to know if reaching 180 cm is possible and what I should pay attention to.
Additionally, I rarely eat snacks or fried foods like instant noodles.

Hello! Factors influencing height include genetics, body constitution, nutrition, and exercise.
Within adjustable ranges, we can focus on high-calorie, high-protein, and high-calcium diets, as well as supplementing with vitamin D.
Engaging in jumping exercises, such as skipping rope and playing basketball, can stimulate growth plates.
Of course, sufficient sleep is also very important.
It is recommended that you visit a pediatric specialty clinic or an orthopedic clinic for a professional assessment and advice from a specialist.
This response is provided by Dietitian Tsai Hsiu-Wen from Nantou Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Wishing you peace, health, and the fulfillment of your wishes.

More Info

Growing taller is a common concern for many adolescents, especially during the critical growth phases of puberty. At your age, you are still within the window where growth can occur, but several factors influence your height, including genetics, nutrition, and overall health.

Understanding Growth Potential
Firstly, it's essential to understand that genetics play a significant role in determining your height. If your parents are tall, you may have a higher chance of being tall as well. However, even if your genetic potential is high, environmental factors such as nutrition and physical activity can significantly influence your growth.

Nutrition for Growth
Nutrition is crucial during your growth years. A balanced diet rich in essential nutrients can support your body's growth processes. Here are some key nutrients to focus on:
1. Protein: Protein is vital for growth and development. It helps in building and repairing tissues. Include sources like lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, and nuts in your diet.

2. Calcium: Calcium is essential for bone growth and density. Dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese are excellent sources. If you're lactose intolerant, consider fortified plant-based alternatives like almond or soy milk.

3. Vitamin D: This vitamin helps your body absorb calcium and is crucial for bone health. You can get vitamin D from sunlight exposure, fatty fish, fortified foods, and supplements if necessary.

4. Zinc: Zinc plays a role in growth and development. Foods rich in zinc include meat, shellfish, legumes, seeds, nuts, dairy, and whole grains.

5. Fruits and Vegetables: These provide essential vitamins and minerals that support overall health and growth. Aim for a variety of colors to ensure a wide range of nutrients.

Healthy Lifestyle Choices
In addition to nutrition, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is vital for growth:
1. Sleep: Sleep is when your body does most of its growing. Aim for 8-10 hours of quality sleep each night. It seems you are already doing well by going to bed around 9:30 to 10:30 PM, which is great!
2. Physical Activity: Regular exercise is essential for healthy growth. Activities like swimming, cycling, basketball, and even stretching exercises can promote growth. While you mentioned you don't like basketball, consider other activities that you enjoy, such as dancing or yoga, which can also be beneficial.

3. Avoiding Harmful Substances: It's good to hear that you avoid junk food and instant noodles. These foods can be high in unhealthy fats and sugars, which can negatively impact your overall health and growth.

Monitoring Growth
As you approach the end of your growth phase, it's essential to monitor your growth patterns. If you have concerns about your height or growth, consider consulting a healthcare professional. They can assess your growth plates through X-rays to determine if you still have growth potential.

Conclusion
While reaching a height of 180 cm may be ambitious, focusing on a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep can help you maximize your growth potential. Remember, everyone's growth journey is unique, and it's essential to embrace your individual growth pattern. Keep a positive mindset, and focus on being healthy rather than just the number on the scale or measuring tape.
