Winter Weight Loss: Does Season Affect Diet and Exercise Results? - Nutrition

Winter Weight Loss

Does the effectiveness of weight loss differ between winter and summer with the same diet and exercise? In reality, I just want to avoid regaining weight.
However, despite maintaining my diet and even increasing my exercise over the past few days, my weight has still gone up, and I really don't know what to do.
I am 153 cm tall and currently weigh 43 kg.
This summer, I lost 14 kg over about three months by eating less and exercising more.
After losing weight, my cheeks became a bit sunken, and the feedback I received was more negative than positive.
Although I know that weight loss should be healthy, and I realize that my weight is somewhat underweight for my height, I can't help but feel reluctant to gain weight again after all the hard work it took to lose it.
Moreover, gaining one kilogram is much easier than losing one kilogram, which makes me even more afraid that if I gain weight to 47 kg, I could easily become overweight again with just a little indulgence.
This has left me trapped in a cycle of weight-related anxiety.
Should I consider gaining weight? P.S.
I do not have anorexia!

Hello: Losing 14 kilograms in three months is indeed quite rapid.
You have adopted a method of eating less and exercising more, but I wonder how much you are eating less or how much you are exercising.
Based on your height and weight, your ideal body weight is approximately between 46.3 to 56.5 kilograms.
During the weight loss process, I believe it is essential to rebuild a proper dietary pattern and establish a regular exercise routine.
It is important not to lose weight excessively, as this can lead to health issues.
Since I am unaware of the specific foods you consume and your exercise regimen, I cannot provide targeted feedback.
Restoring your weight to a standard level does not mean overeating; rather, it involves consuming an appropriate amount of food that meets your needs.
I recommend that you consult a qualified nutritionist for weight loss advice.
Avoiding excessive dieting is crucial for maintaining health, as that would not lead to a healthy, slender appearance! Wishing you health and safety as the autumn cools down.

The relationship between seasonal changes and weight management is a complex topic that many individuals grapple with, especially when they notice fluctuations in their weight despite maintaining consistent dietary and exercise habits. It is not uncommon for people to experience weight gain during the winter months, and several factors contribute to this phenomenon.

Firstly, it is essential to understand that our bodies react differently to seasonal changes. During winter, shorter days and colder temperatures can lead to a decrease in physical activity. People tend to stay indoors more, which can result in reduced exercise levels. Additionally, the body may crave more calorie-dense foods during colder months as a natural response to maintain warmth and energy levels. This can lead to an increase in caloric intake, even if the individual believes they are eating the same amount as in warmer months.

Moreover, the body's metabolism can also be influenced by seasonal changes. Research indicates that metabolic rates can fluctuate with the seasons, potentially slowing down in winter. This means that even if you maintain the same diet and exercise routine, your body might not burn calories as efficiently during the winter months, leading to weight gain.

In your case, you mentioned that despite increasing your exercise and keeping your diet the same, you are still experiencing weight gain. This could be attributed to several factors. For instance, fluctuations in water retention can cause temporary weight increases. If you are consuming more carbohydrates, your body may retain more water, leading to a higher number on the scale. Additionally, hormonal changes, stress levels, and even sleep patterns can affect weight. The winter months can sometimes lead to seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which can impact mood and motivation, potentially leading to changes in eating and exercise habits.

It's also crucial to consider the psychological aspect of weight management. After significant weight loss, as you experienced, there can be a fear of regaining weight, which can lead to restrictive eating patterns or an unhealthy relationship with food. It's important to focus on a balanced approach to eating that includes a variety of foods to ensure you are meeting your nutritional needs without feeling deprived.
If you are concerned about your weight and body image, it may be beneficial to consult with a registered dietitian or nutritionist. They can help you develop a personalized plan that considers your height, weight, activity level, and overall health goals. They can also provide guidance on how to maintain a healthy weight without resorting to extreme dieting or exercise regimens.

In conclusion, while seasonal changes can affect weight loss and maintenance, it is essential to approach weight management holistically. Focus on balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and mental well-being. Remember, weight is just one aspect of health, and maintaining a positive relationship with food and your body is equally important.
